Many patients in intensive care units require sedation, mechanical
ventilation, and other life-saving interventions that can lead to
complications. Over-sedation, immobility, and delirium are a triple
threat—separate yet reinforcing complications that can lead to long-term
patient harm. This session will help participants take action to reduce
sedation, increase delirium detection, and improve mobility for
critically ill patients.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe how to reduce patient time in a delirious state and identify patients at high risk for acute brain injury
- Describe new techniques to increase patient mobility earlier in the care process
- List proven practices for reducing sedative overuse
- Describe methods that increase patient safety and engage the entire critical care team
