Welcome

On behalf of the Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Department, Hamad Medical Corporation, it gives us great pleasure to invite you to the ‘Tracheostomy Care Course’.

This course is organized to raise awareness of tracheostomy care among healthcare providers and to ensure HMC staff have the knowledge needed to work safely with tracheostomy patients.
Currently, tracheostomies are becoming increasingly common in acute hospital settings and within the community. However, the understanding and the mastery of tracheostomy skills is a great challenge.
This unique half-day event is aimed at providing doctors, medical and nursing staff as well as allied healthcare workers with the right information, understanding and skills needed to ensure that patient safety is ensured and the potential risk and problems associated with tracheostomies are minimized.

The course will feature practical lectures, hands-on skills stations and simulations. The course syllabus covers:
  • Evidence-based tracheostomy care guidelines
  • Nursing and tracheostomy care considerations (dressing, suctioning, cleaning, humidification)
  • Types of tracheostomy tubes
  • How to change tracheostomy tubes
  • Speech, swallowing and weaning management
  • Managing tracheostomy care emergencies

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the course organizing team for their continuous efforts in making the program beneficial to all the participants.

Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Qahtani
