Welcome

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the Organizing and Scientific Committees, I am delighted to introduce the 9th Qatar National Sepsis Symposium, which will be held in Hajar Auditorium, Doha, from 13 to 14 September 2022. The theme for this two-day symposium is ‘Advancing The Care of Sepsis’ as we plan to delve deeper into the latest best practices in sepsis prevention and care.

We have worked hard over the past decade to develop a robust sepsis strategy for our patients; our efforts have included close collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, Primary Health Care Corporation, Sidra Medicine and Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute, as well as valuable support we have received from international experts. Input from all these stakeholders has contributed to the establishment of the Qatar National Sepsis Program (QNSP), which is instrumental in developing national clinical guidelines and protocols to improve sepsis management for different patient populations. Professional and public education to promote sepsis awareness and diagnosis is an important aspect of the QNSP’s mandate.

Our goal for this professional education event this year was to include an extended multidisciplinary group in the development of our program so that we cover sepsis care for different healthcare professionals. We are also privileged to have two eminent international speakers participating this year: Dr. Ron Daniels, Chief Executive of the UK Sepsis Trust, and Prof. Mervyn Singer, Professor of Intensive Care Medicine, University College London, (UK).

The Global Sepsis Alliance states that: “World Sepsis Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against sepsis.”

With this symposium, we are contributing our collective expertise to support this fight.

I believe that there is something of interest for every healthcare professional and look forward to your active participation.
