Dr. Jorge Luis Passarelli
Geriatrics Consultant, HMC

Dr. Jorge Passarelli is a Consultant Geriatrician in Ortho Geriatrics/Trauma Geriatrics in the Department of Geriatrics and Long-Term Care at HMC. He joined HMC in December 2019 and since then has also been given responsibility for teaching and educational activities for the fellowship program and is a member of the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) at HMC. During his current role at Hamad Medical Corporation, he has contributed with quality improvement projects. He was nominated lead for simulation-based learning activities. Last January the consultation services lead by Dr. Passarelli won the “star of the quarter” in recognition for the service proactiveness and hard work. 

 Previously Dr. Passarelli was working as a Consultant Geriatrician in the United Kingdom since 2014. He is an associate Member of the Royal Colleague of Physicians and British Geriatric Society. He has special interest in orthogeriatric, frailty, falls, acute and community geriatrics. He was appointed as operational lead for “Front of house project” at Royal Stoke University Hospital; service which was successfully implemented. 
 
Dr. Passarelli is passionate about medical education and has been a clinical and educational supervisor of junior and senior trainees, as well as mentor of medical students, pharmacists and advanced nurse practitioners.  In Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospital, NHS Trust he won the awards “Recognizing and Rewarding Excellence in Medical Education” Academic year 2018-2019. He has contributed significantly to set up the “Frailty Assessment Unit” which was nominated for the HSJ Value Awards 2019. He was also running the falls clinics and clinical lead for the “Falls Steering Group”. 

Dr. Passarelli completed his primary medical degree at the University Francisco Marroquin, Guatemala. He was selected to participate in the clerkship program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in 2006.
 
Dr. Passarelli carried out his basic and higher specialist training in Barcelona, Spain, where he was appointed as the Chief Registrar. In addition, he completed a Master Degree in Clinical Research: Respiratory Medicine at the University of Barcelona, Spain.
