Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is the leading healthcare provider in the Middle East with health coverage at both tertiary & secondary levels to the citizens and residents of the State of Qatar. The Department of Anesthesia, ICU and Perioperative Medicine is one of the pillars of Hamad Medical Corporation with advanced state of the art setup and high standards of clinical practice, in line with the motto of the Corporation-Health, Education, Research- at the forefront.
The Department covers 80 operating rooms and 50 outside OR workplaces and 47 surgical-ICU beds, all spread across hospitals with a staff of about 220 senior consultants, consultants, and specialists. Annually, we perform about 60000 procedures, 8000 caesarian sections, 15000 epidural procedures for peripartum pain control, and 10000 chronic pain consultations.
As a part of the academic health system, we run structured residency programs accredited by ACGEME-I and advanced fellowship programs in different sub-specialties. Our programs demonstrate excellence in the way medical graduates are trained. In addition, we conduct various courses and workshops for both HMC and non-HMC staff, from the level of senior consultants to technical staff and nurses. There are also courses held for medical students from Weill Cornell Medical College, Qatar University and College of North Atlantic University. Thus, helping in capacity building from top to bottom.
