
Dr. Martin Steinhoff (Qatar)
Dr. Martin Steinhoff, Professor at Qatar University, Weill-Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Weill Cornell University, New York, is Chairman of the Dept. of Dermatology and Venereology and Director of the HMC Translational Research Institute (TRI) at Hamad Medical Corporation. Professor Steinhoff studied Medicine and Human Biology in Germany, where he received his MD, MSc, and Ph.D. from the University of Marburg. After a residency in Dermatology/Venereology, he became Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Muenster in 2002, rising from assistant to full professor in 6 years. He holds board certifications in Dermatology, Venereology, Phlebology, and Allergy. His clinical fields of interest are Atopic Dermatitis, Psoriasis, Rosacea, and Pruritis. Prof. Steinhoff is an established physician-scientist with a long-standing background in basic and clinical research. His group has discovered several mechanisms which are now the basis for new therapies for skin diseases. Review articles about skin diseases have been published in highly ranked Review journals. He is also the author in most relevant textbooks for Dermatology on Skin Inflammation and Allergy. Prof. Steinhoff’s current research has been funded with more than 40 Mio Euro in 20 years. His group has published more than 200 peer-reviewed or reviews, 47 book chapters, and more than 500 abstracts (Impact factor: 11,100; H-index 70). He holds 11 patents, has been a consultant for more than 25 companies and serves on the scientific advisory board of various dermatology societies and industry partners. He has been PI on > 50 grants, 25 clinical trials. For his research, Prof Steinhoff received several prestigious international research awards worldwide. He has been a member of the European Society of Dermatology Research (ESDR) board of directors and an honorary Member of several Societies for Dermatology.
