Prof. Mandeep (Monty) Singh Duggal

Prof Duggal obtained his dental degree and MDS in Paediatric Dentistry from India. He then immigrated to the United Kingdom and obtained his FDSRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and his PhD from University of Leeds.  He was appointed Professor and Chair of Child Dental Health at Leeds Dental Institute in 1999 where he oversaw a large postgraduate programme in Paediatric Dentistry which has international acclaim. In January 2017 he was appointed as Professor and Head of Paediatric Dentistry in Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore.  Currently he is the Vice Dean and Faculty Research Director of the National University Centre for Oral Health, Singapore (NUCOHS).  

He has served in various senior positions and was President of the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry from 2014-2016 and has been on the board of EAPD for last 10 years.  Professor Duggal has published over 160 research papers in international journals and is author of “Restorative Techniques in Paediatric Dentistry, which has been published in 7 languages and has sold over 16,000 copies worldwide. He is also a co-author of a textbook on Dental Traumatology and has Co-Edited “Paediatric Dentistry” by Oxford, now in its 5th edition and is the most widely followed textbook in Paediatric dentistry in the world.  More recently he authored “Paediatric Dentistry at a Glance”, published by Blackwell Willey.  

He has administered research grants totaling over seven million pounds and is an internationally recognised researcher and clinician with main research interest is Cariology and Translation Research in Clinical Paediatric Dentistry, including dental traumatology and regenerative endodontics and auto-transplantation. Apart from Paediatric Dentistry his main interest is playing and watching cricket and any time spare from work and family is devoted to this important activity

Dr Kalaiarasu BDS, MSc(Lond), MPaedDentRCS(Eng), MPaedDentRCPS(Glasg), FDSRCS(Eng), FDSRCPS(Glasg), FDSRCS(Edin), graduated with a BDS from University of Malaya in 1985. He subsequently went to the United Kingdom where he undertook postgraduate training in Paediatric Dentistry and Oral Surgery. He obtained his Masters’ degree in Children’s Dentistry from the University of London in 1992, and the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1993. He completed his specialty training in Paediatric Dentistry at the Barts and London Hospital, and the Intercollegiate Membership in Pediatric Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2001. He was admitted as a Dental Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2016 and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2017.

Dr Kalaiarasu is an invited speaker to various national and international conferences on topics related to orofacial injuries, oral lesions and oral surgery in children. He is on the International Editorial Board of Journal of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry and reviewer for Dental Traumatology. He received the Jens Andreasen Award for Traumatology (IAPD) in 2013. He has contributed a section on “Cleft Lip & Palate” in the Textbook of Paediatric Dentistry 3rd Edition. He is currently the Head & Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at Hospital Sungai Buloh, and Deputy Director of Institute for Clinical Research at NIH Malaysia.

He is a past President of the Metropolitan Branch of the Irish Dental Association and has served on both the Dental Council and the Council of the Irish Dental Association.

He was a trustee of the Irish Dental Health Foundation for over twenty years.

He has served on the Board of RCSI for a number of years and became Dean in 2014.

He is currently Immediate Past Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, RCSI and continues in specialist practice in Orthodontics and Paediatric dentistry.

Dr John Walsh went to secondary school at De La Salle College, Churchtown Dublin. He received his undergraduate dental degree from Trinity College in 1974 and was awarded the Sheldon Friel Prize.

After a year in private practice in England he received the American Dental Society of Europe Scholarship award that enabled him to attend the Graduate Paedodontic Program at Indiana University School of Dentistry where he received his Master’s Degree in 1977.  He was awarded the Ralph E. McDonald Scholarship and the G. R. Baker prize. Subsequently he gained entry to the Graduate Orthodontic Program at the University of Washington from where he obtained his Master’s Degree in Orthodontics in 1986. On his return to Ireland he continued to participate as a part time lecturer in the Division of Child Dental Health at Dublin University Dental Hospital.

In 1989 he became the first European to successfully complete the Board certification process of the American Board of Paediatric Dentistry.

He was awarded an FFD (Ad Eundem) from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1997.

He has also received the FICD and the FACD. He has lectured extensively at home and abroad in the areas of both Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics.
