Prof. Shahrad Taheri

Professor Taheri is a distinguished graduate of the University of Oxford. He earned his medical degree with honors from the University of London and subsequently obtained his PhD from Imperial College London. He completed post-doctoral research training at Stanford University, which equipped him with extensive experience in leading large, multi-disciplinary clinical and research teams.

With over 200 publications, Professor Taheri has received numerous awards for his impactful research and exemplary clinical care. His pioneering research was among the first to establish a connection between sleep duration and obesity, emphasizing the significance of sleep as a critical lifestyle factor.

Recently, his internationally recognized research included the first clinical trial aimed at reversing diabetes in the Middle East, demonstrating that intensive lifestyle intervention can successfully reverse type 2 diabetes in a substantial number of patients. With over 25 years of experience managing obesity and bariatric surgery, he has directed large obesity centers across multiple countries.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Professor Taheri actively participates in global discussions on obesity as a member of the Clinical Care Committee of the World Obesity Federation and as the Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Obesity at the same organization. His contributions continue to influence the field of obesity management and research worldwide.
