Dr. Tanzeem Haider Raza is a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine at Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He pioneered the establishment of the Acute Medicine specialty in the UK in 1997 and led the Acute Medicine Unit in Bournemouth until 2016.
Under his leadership, this unit became known for its innovative approaches to caring for acutely ill medical patients. He also held the position of Regional Advisor for Acute Medicine in Wessex until 2014.
With extensive experience in education and training, Dr. Raza currently serves as the International Medical Director for PACES, working for the Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK. He was the Director of Medical Education at his hospital for a decade and has been an honorary senior clinical lecturer with the University of Southampton. Additionally, he worked as an Associate Postgraduate Dean in the Wessex Deanery.
He served as one of the Censors for the Royal College of Physicians of London, where he was also an elected member of the RCP Council and previously the Associate International Director.
Dr. Raza's academic interests focus on the impact of cultural background on medical education and training. He has played a pivotal role in integrating hundreds of overseas doctors, including refugees, into the National Health Service. He is also a Trustee for the Trust for Development of Pakistan, a registered charity in the UK.
Accredited as an Educator by the Royal College of Physicians, Dr. Raza has significant experience facilitating various training workshops. He completed a Master's in Medical Education from Cardiff University and was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his exceptional contributions to health and medical education.
