Dr Beshyah qualified from the Medical School of Tripoli in 1981. He received basic clinical training in Tripoli and Glasgow (1982-1986) leading to the MRCP in Ireland and UK in 1987. He trained in Leicester and Bedford (1987-1989) in diabetes. He undertook four-year clinical research at Imperial College London leading to his PhD thesis and many publications in peer reviewed journals.

His first consultant post in diabetes and endocrinology was in Harlow, Essex UK in 1996 for 10 years before moving to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi for 13 years followed by Mediclinic Airport Road and Yas Clinic for 5 years before taking his current post.

He has a special interest in cultural aspects of medicine, education, and culturally relevant clinical research. He has been involved in local and regional educational and research activities and maintained a wide network of local, regional and international collaborations.
