Dr. M Zahid graduated from Punjab University, Pakistan, in 1997, then trained in Internal Medicine and was awarded FCPS from the College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSP) Pakistan in 2002.
Dr. Zahid trained in the UK, passing MRCP in 2005 and completing his specialty training in Acute and Stroke Medicine in 2011. He worked as a Consultant at Dorset County Hospital NHS Trust until moving to Doha in November 2014. He has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians - FRCP London since 2015.
Dr Zahid has been a Senior Consultant in General Internal Medicine at Hamad General Hospital since November 2014 and has led the Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU) since its establishment in 2015 till 2023. Under his leadership, AMAU was recognized as the "Best Care Always" award and received the "Globe of Excellence award" in 2017. He is also an Assistant Professor at WCMC and an Associate Professor at Qatar University, with over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
He has completed a Fellowship in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) and has served as the Quality Officer for the Internal Medicine Residency Program since 2016. He developed a QIPS curriculum and conducted QIPS workshops for nine years, mentoring residents on numerous QIPS projects. He has received the "Best QIPS Project" award multiple times.
His interests are medical education and service improvement, which are related to patient flow. He won the "Best Teacher Award" in 2017 and 2018 and the "Excellence in Clinical Care Award" in 2018. Dr Zahid has been awarded the "Best Physician 2022" by the Hamad Medical Corporation.
Dr. Zahid is the CPSP-nominated supervisor in Qatar and serves as a PACES Examiner for the MRCP UK Exam and an OSCE Examiner for the Arab and Qatar Boards.
