Mahmoud Alhawamdeh, MD, MBA, FACP,FHM
Dr. Mahmoud Alhawamdeh is currently the Chair of Hospital Medicine Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Mahmoud has completed his MBBS degree from Jordan in 1993 and then completed his Internal Medicine Residency in 1999 from New York Medical College, USA. After a year of Chief residency, he moved to Washington State in 2000.
His practice in Washington State for 14 years was a mix of outpatient and inpatient Internal Medicine practice, but soon in 2001 he co-founded the first Hospital Medicine Program in his Hospital. He was involved in all aspects of patient's quality and safety and inpatient operations. He helped Trios Health Hospital to start their first Stroke Centre and was the director for that program, also started and directed the first chest pain centre in the hospital.
Additionally, he was an active member of Quality Assurance committee and became the chairman of department of Medicine for Trios which included Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Paediatrics, and Emergency Medicine Physicians.
He also established an Internal Medicine Residency Program at Trios Health in 2012 and was the first Program Director until he left the Hospital in 2014.
In 2014 Dr. Mahmoud joined Cleveland Clinic AbuDhabi as the Chair of Hospital Medicine and to establish inpatient clinical services months before the hospital opened its door to see patients.
Dr. Mahmoud was chosen in 2018 by the ACP to be one of the Top 10 Hospitalist for his role in establishing hospital Medicine outside the US.
He received the prestigious Annual Nightingale Physician award in 2020.
Dr. Mahmoud was also chosen to be the Quality officer for the Medical Subspecialty Institute and led so many projects related to patient's safety, process improvement of admission and discharge as well as starting the first post discharge clinic that served the patients immediately after their hospital discharge.
Dr. Mahmoud also helped established the first Society of Hospital Medicine in the Middle East Chapter in collaboration with colleagues from Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Dr Mahmoud is the executive director of the annual Internal Medicine Update conference at Cleveland Clinic AbuDhabi.
