Prof. Abdulaziz Zorgani
Dip-Bact, MSc, PhD, FIBS, Dip-HAI, IFBA

Professor Zorgani earned his DipBact diploma and Master of Science degree from the Department of Pathological Sciences at the University of Manchester. He subsequently obtained his PhD from the Department of Medical Microbiology at the University of Edinburgh. He began his academic career as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Edinburgh, later completing his postdoctoral research fellowship at the Institute of Child Health, University of Birmingham.

He possesses a wealth of teaching experience within the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tripoli. His primary focus has been on instructing medical microbiology and engaging in clinical microbiology practice. Throughout his tenure, he has authored 76 scientific articles, with a significant portion addressing antibiotic resistance and healthcare-associated infections. He has also expanded his collaborative efforts with colleagues in Egypt, Tunisia, and France. Additionally, he has been appointed as the head of the Bacteriology Unit at the Reference Laboratory of the National Centre for Diseases Control in Libya. Professor Zorgani acts as a reviewer for numerous journals and holds the position of assistant editor for the Libyan Journal of Medical Science, among others. His research interests encompass antibiotic resistance, healthcare-associated infections, sterilization and disinfection, and biorisk management. Recently, he achieved IFBA-PC certification and has introduced biorisk management concepts to postgraduate students at both the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Tripoli. Furthermore, he has been appointed as a temporary advisor to the World Health Organization and is a member of the university's ethical committee.
