Delegates can select one of three workshops in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Morning Workshop: 9am to 12pm
Room 1:
Buprenorphine Detoxification in the Treatment of Opioid Misuse

Introduction: Opioid misuse is a significant problem worldwide that leads to high morbidity, and a growing cause of mortality relating to overdose. Knowledge about opioids effects, dependence, and withdrawal is essential in providing acute and ongoing care to these patients.

Objectives: Workshop will focus on the use of Buprenorphine in the treatment of opioid misuse disorders. It will introduce participants to assessment and patient selection for detoxification, and the induction methods of Buprenorphine during detoxification. It will include presentations and panel interactive session with the audience. Participants will be invited to present and discuss challenging questions encountered in local practice.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn assessment of opioid misuse disorders with emphasis on withdrawal and detoxification approaches. - Participants will learn pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of Buprenorphine - Participants will learn practical approaches to the use of Buprenorphine in a variety of clinical settings
Room 2:
Psychiatrists as Leaders: Leadership Skills and Achieving Excellence

Introduction:  Effective Leaders in the field of Mental Health Provision can lead to improvement in all aspects of the services for example, service delivery, financial management, Clinical skills, training and development and research.

Objectives: The aim of this workshop is to train participants in how to acquire and develop leadership skills. We aim to stimulate participant’s interest in the field of leadership.

Learning Objectives:  Participants will learn the difference between management and leadership.
Room 3:
Mindfulness for Physical, Mental, and Emotional Balance. Mindfulness based cognitive therapy for depression

Introduction:  Recent years has seen an increased focus on mindfulness and its numerous benefits, while mindfulness programs have made their way into the fields of education, mental health, work place stress reduction, and leadership development. Part of the reason why mindfulness is popping up everywhere in widely different contexts is that it is not simply about learning a narrow, specific skill. Rather, it is about learning a new way of approaching our usual tasks with a state of mind ready to accept, grow, learn, transform, and empower. It is therefore endlessly applicable throughout our lives.

Objectives:  Mindfulness training teaches people to be more present, more in the NOW and less ruminating about the past or fearing for the future. This workshop will be a mix of demonstrations, background, lecture, self-exploration, and practicing to give participants a hands-on encounter with mindfulness.

Learning Objectives:  Participants will learn clear and stringent ways to train the mind to be less reactive, safer, and more connected to the surrounding world.

Afternoon workshops: 1pm to 4pm
Room 1:
Substance Use Disorder: Counselor’s Basic Clinical Skills and Techniques

Introduction:  Psychoactive substance use disorder is a common mental health problem almost in all countries. Most substance use patients suffer many complications and multiple squeal of this serious mental health problem. These negative consequences tend to involve most of the patient’s live domains, families and their communities. Provision of effective counseling and appropriate therapeutic intervention to patients with substance use disorders in all health institutions should be an ultimate goal.

Objectives:  To provide mental health staff working in specialized addiction treatment facilities, mental health hospitals, general institutions providing mental health services through departments or clinics and community-based mental health services - with the basic and fundamental knowledge, skills and techniques needed to identify, counsel and/or treat patients suffering from psychoactive substance use issues.

Learning Objectives:  Participants will learn to recognize psychoactive substances, substance use disorder signs and appropriate treatments and therapies.
Room 2:
Arts of Writing Astonishing Forensic Psychiatry Reports

Introduction:  Forensic Psychiatry is an important subspecialty and understanding the basic principles of writing a Forensic Psychiatry Report.

Objectives:  Dealing with Forensic Psychiatry cases will be discussed, as well as understanding how to deal with Forensic Psychiatry cases.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn how to deal basically with Forensic Psychiatry cases starting from their referral to hospitals, and ending by suggesting a disposition and rehabilitation program. They  will learn how to read and interpret a forensic psychiatry report and learn the basic principles of writing a forensic psychiatry report. In addition, participants will learn to distinguish the usage of different types of forensic psychiatry reports during appropriate circumstances.
