In August 2008 the Patient and Family Education Unit was established at HMC in order to ensure compliance with standards and legal guidelines set by the Joint Commission for hospital accreditation and the Nurse Practice Act, known as the “Patient’s Bill of Rights”. The aim of the Unit is to ensure that patients make informed health decisions by acquiring knowledge about their condition; including prevention, treatment and self-care skills; in order to improve medical outcomes, boost patient satisfaction and reduce medical errors. The Department of Nursing remains committed to maintaining a collaborative multi-disciplinary relationship with other healthcare professionals within and outside the organization.
The Patient and Family Education Unit is dedicated to providing health educational services to patients, families and the community in Qatar that are consistent with the HMC’s mission statement and goals.
We believe in a healthy community where all individuals reach their highest potential for health. We strive to become an important source of information for patients, families and staff within HMC.
