A woman has reached menopause when she has not had a period for 12 months in a row. This often happens between 45 to 55 years of age. Menopause happens because the woman’s ovary stops producing the hormones estrogen and progesterone.

A woman going through menopause could be referred to the Hormonal Replacement Therapy Clinic at HMC for surgical menopausal, perimenopausal or postmenopausal medical treatment with the goal to alleviate discomfort caused by diminished circulating estrogen and progesterone hormones due to menopause.
