Infertility means not being able to get pregnant after one year of trying. If a woman is 35 years or older, infertility is based on six months of trying to become pregnant. Women who can get pregnant but are unable to stay pregnant may also be considered infertile.
A number of risk factors including age, sedentary lifestyle, being overweight or a number of sexually transmitted diseases can cause infertility in women.
Infertility can be prevented by maintaining an ideal weight, by stopping smoking, avoiding alcohol, limiting caffeine and reducing stress.
Contact your primary health physician for regular routine assessment for early diagnosis of a condition that could cause infertility.
