If you have an injury, disability, weight problem, diabetes or other chronic health condition, adopt a ‘safety first’ approach to doing exercise, especially when you are trying something new. Ask your doctor or physiotherapist for advice on what exercises are best for you.

If you have fallen before or are worried about falling, doing exercises to improve your strength, balance and flexibility will help make you stronger and feel more confident on your feet. But always do any new movement carefully to avoid the risk of falling.

Remember you can often prevent injury and discomfort simply by warming up before your exercise session, cooling down afterwards, and keeping hydrated throughout.

Speak to your doctor or physiotherapist if you have any concerns about exercising.
