More than 1,000 children with diabetes are regular patients at the pediatric diabetes unit, making us one of the largest centers in the region dedicated to the treatment and study of diabetes in children.
Pediatric diabetes clinic
The HMC pediatric diabetes clinic is focused on the care of infants, children and adolescents with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as some children who are at high risk of developing diabetes. We have a team approach to providing care to children and families.
Introducing the pediatric diabetes care team
The pediatric diabetes care team at HMC is dedicated to providing the safest and most effective care to children diagnosed with, or at a high risk of diabetes, in Qatar. Our main objective is to enable our patients to live healthy and productive lives as they move towards adulthood. This specialist team is made up of:
- Specialist physicians (diabetes/endocrinology) - to provide specialist consultation
- Nurse educators - to help you to understand the condition and treatment plan
- Diabetes dietician - to advise on lifestyle and nutrition management
- Social worker/counselor - to assist with the stress of the diagnosis and to help your family cope
