Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), in cooperation with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), recently organized an intensive training program to help prepare HMC and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) dentists to take the Membership of the College’s Faculty of Dentistry (MFD) entrance examination. Twenty Qatari dentists from HMC and PHCC participated in the preparatory training program, which was held from 6 to 10 May at HMC’s Medical Education Center.

This is the third consecutive year that HMC has organized the training program. The program is part of an agreement between HMC and RCSI and was developed with the aim of providing specialized dentistry training to Qataris interested in furthering their education and advancing their dental qualifications.

Dr. Khalifa Al Ansari, Senior Consultant and Vice Chairman of the Hamad Dental Center said: "This five-day intensive training program was attended by twenty general dental practitioners from HMC and PHCC. The program is designed to help these clinicians refine their knowledge in all aspects of the dentistry profession. It aims to prepare members of our clinical teams to pass the admittance test for membership with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the next intake of which is scheduled for 8 October.”

“The dentists who have been enrolled in this program for the past two years have achieved a high level of success in their MFD examinations. Some have already joined the specialized Pediatric Dentistry Fellowship Program offered in cooperation with the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland,” added Dr. Al Ansari.

Dr. Asmaa Othman Al Khtib, Manager of Dental and Oral Health Operations and Support at the PHCC said: “This collaborative effort by stakeholders in the dental profession is key to ensuring that our teams are able to deliver international best practice in oral healthcare services locally and is an opportunity to work closely together to enhance our general dentists’ clinical skill.”

The intensive training program will be held again next year from 28 April to 2 May, 2019, offering participants the opportunity to prepare for the MFD entrance examination.

The internationally-accredited RCSI MFD post-graduate dental education program supports Qatar’s National Oral Health Strategy.
