A Message from Dr. Saad Al Kaabi, System Wide Incident Command (SWICC) Committee Chair

In so many ways, confronting COVID-19 has required us to quickly adapt the way we deliver care to our patients. We needed to quickly find ways that reduced the need for patients to attend our facilities – protecting both them and our staff in a pandemic -  yet still maintain the continuum of care. A key part of this has been the launch of a range of innovative remote healthcare services through the 16000 phone line – ensuring our patients can still access the care they need. The Urgent Consultation Service, which gives patients access to physicians across 15 specialties via telemedicine channels, now handles an average of 5000 calls a week from patients seeking help and advice for their conditions. As it stands today, around 80 percent of our outpatient care is now delivered by remote means – enabling our physicians to continue to deliver thorough and comprehensive care without our patients having to attend our hospitals. Well done to the team involved – not just for your role in providing this important service to our patients, but also for being flexible and adapting to these new ways of working. Thank you.

Dr. Saad Al Kaabi
Senior Consultant Medical Affairs
System Wide Incident Command Committee Chair
