Notes:
During normal working hours (7am to 3pm Sunday to Thursday), Histopathology specimens from Hamad General Hospital units should be sent directly to the Anatomic Pathology laboratory. Outside of these hours including weekends and holidays, send specimens to the Rapid Response Core Laboratory located in the Trauma and Emergency Center, 3rd floor.
In case of urgent histopathology specimens, including fresh tissue specimens, frozen section specimens, lymph node for lymphoma studies, and specimens in saline solution such as kidney, skin, and muscle biopsies received through the Central Specimen Receiving and Processing (CP) area, the specimens shall be transferred immediately to Histopathology Laboratory without delay. The laboratory shall be notified 24 hours before the procedure. Follow the monthly on call duty schedule for notifying the concerned staff about the STAT specimens.
For Microbiology samples from HGH inpatients, the samples should be sent directly to the Microbiology specimen receiving area located in Hamad General Hospital, ground floor. Microbiology samples received through the Central Specimen Receiving and Processing (CP) area are dispatched every hour, 24/7, according to the pre-set specimen transportation schedule.
Newborn screening samples from private hospitals and metabolic laboratory samples collected in Rumailah Hospital phlebotomy should be sent directly to the Metabolic laboratory, Ground Floor, Rumailah Hospital.
Metabolic samples received through the Central Specimen Receiving and Processing (CP) area are dispatched on weekdays only, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Samples received after 3:00 PM are stored and dispatched on the next working day. For urgent samples received after 3:00 PM, CP staff must notify the on-call Metabolic Laboratory staff for further instructions.
Newborn screening samples are received and dispatched from Saturday to Thursday, between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
