Safe blood and blood products, along with their transfusion, are integral components of the healthcare system. These resources are routinely used for patient care. Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), through Qatar Blood Services operated by the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP), supplies blood and blood components to both governmental and private hospitals in Qatar.​




International Accreditation for Quality of Care


Qatar Blood Services is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapy (AABB). This accreditation indicates adherence to internationally recognized standards for quality and safety in blood banking and transfusion services.



​​Qatar National Blood Donor Center


The Qatar National Blood Donor Center provides blood, blood components and transfusion services for patients in Qatar and supports the country's blood and plasma systems. The Center houses 38 donation beds, conducts Therapeutic Plasma Exchange procedures for patients requiring plasma exchange and offers facilities for therapeutic phlebotomy, stem cell collection, and platelet collection.

The availability of an adequate and safe blood supply is crucial for various medical procedures, including surgeries, trauma care, and the treatment of chronic conditions such as cancer and blood disorders.

The Center’s opening hours for donations are:

  • Sunday to Thursday: 7am to 9:30pm
  • Friday: Closed
  • Saturday: 8am to 4pm

Donating Blood in Qatar


Whole Blood has a shelf life of 42 days from the date of collection, making a steady supply of donations essential.

Platelet Donation has a shelf life of 7 days from the date of collection. Donating blood requires approximately one hour, including registration of donor, a brief medical assessment, blood collection then finally post-donation care.

Healthy adults between 18 and 65 years may donate if they meet these additional criteria:

  • Sufficient rest and food intake prior to donating
  • Male hemoglobin: 13–18 g/dl
  • Female hemoglobin: 12.5–16 g/dl
  • Minimum weight of 50kg
  • Absence of skin diseases, punctures, or scars at the phlebotomy site
  • Body temperature below 37.5°C
  • Pulse: 50–100 bpm
  • Blood pressure within 100/60 – 180/100 mm Hg​




​Community Engagement


Qatar Blood Services conducts blood donation drives at multiple locations across Qatar to increase accessibility and engage the community in our work.

The service also collaborates with many community groups (social and cultural), organizations, government national institutions and ministries, the army, MOI, educational academies, religious organizations, private companies and youth and sports organizations to arrange blood donation events.
