The National Patient Safety Collaborative (NPSC) was built on the Best Care Always initiative. It was innovated from the IHI’s Breakthrough Series Collaborative Model, which was designed to help organizations develop a structure or framework where they can easily learn from each other and from recognized subject matter experts in topic areas where improvement is needed and desired.
The initial collaborative programs held in Qatar had a clear focus on Sepsis and VTE, as it is a measurable improvement requirement in Qatar for patients and their families. A total of 33 teams across 4 healthcare organizations in Qatar, namely Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) and Sidra Medicine, supported by the Ministry of Public Health, worked together to achieve the aim of the NPSC.
The NPSC model has been innovated to meet the requirement of all the facilities and participating organizations in Qatar. The elements unique to Qatar are:
- Leadership visits
- HHQI QI activity support visits
- Al Majilis - one day event held every 6 months for a vibrant learning and sharing community
