Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has embarked on a pioneering journey of collaboration with the newly inaugurated Qatar Precision Health Institute (QPHI) under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser. The partnership aims to translate cutting-edge genomic and multi-omics research into clinical practice to improve healthcare services in Qatar and the wider region.
QPHI, established as a national center for research under the Qatar Foundation, specializes in innovative genomic and multi-omics research. Its mission is to lead healthcare transformation in Qatar by harnessing the latest scientific advances. At its inaugural event on Tuesday, 30 April 2024, QPHI announced the signing of significant memoranda of understanding (MoU) with HMC, Represented and signed by Dr Abdullah Al Ansari – The Chief Medical Officer of HMC. This MoU aims to foster collaboration and share precision diagnostics and treatment knowledge.
Through this partnership, Hamad Medical Corporation aims to achieve several key objectives, including advancing Preventive Health, developing Diagnostic and Treatment Interventions, and accelerating National Health Mapping Programs.
Under the MoU with QPHI, HMC will engage in various knowledge exchange and capacity-building initiatives. These efforts will help HMC's clinicians and medical professionals enhance their skills and knowledge in precision health practices. Additionally, QPHI will refer patients with identified pathogenic genetic mutations to HMC's Center for Clinical Precision Medicine and Genomics (CCPMG) for further evaluation and treatment. This process will follow internationally recognized guidelines for risk reduction and patient care.
"We envision a future where precision medicine becomes the cornerstone of healthcare in Qatar and globally. Through this partnership, we aim to combine our expertise with QPHI's cutting-edge technologies to redefine the standards of patient care and treatment, ultimately saving lives and enhancing well-being." – Said Dr. Salha Al Bader, the Clinical Director of CCPMG.
Before the official launch of QPHI, experts in precision medicine from HMC and other institutions gathered at Qatar Foundation's headquarters to discuss strategies for implementing precision medicine in clinical practice. This meeting served as a crucial step toward establishing a framework for clinical implementation, signaling that precision health in Qatar is moving from conceptualization to operational excellence.
With this collaboration, HMC and QPHI look forward to transforming healthcare in Qatar and beyond, offering a model for integrating advanced genomic research with everyday clinical practice. This initiative represents a significant leap towards personalized healthcare, tailoring medical decisions and treatments to meet individual patients' needs based on their genetic profiles.
