Friends or relatives are permitted to accompany you on your admission day. When you arrive at the hospital you should report to the Admitting counter at reception. Here you will be issued with an admission card. There are different admission areas for men and women. Once your admission has been processed and you are allocated a room, you will be accompanied to your room by a nurse who will then explain about hospital services and rules and provide a brief treatment plan.
Information you may be asked for on admission:
- Admission papers, Qatar ID, health card
- Availability of insurance
- Contact information and your house address
- Patients are requested to sign on receipt of the Patient Family Bill of Rights and Responsibilities and comment card
- Patients will be given the Admitting Department contact number (+974) 4474 5277/5274/5275 for any queries/help.
You will be given the opportunity to provide emergency contact details of friends or relatives during your initial nursing assessment on the ward. For safety, patients are asked to wear an identification band during their hospital stay, which should not be removed until discharge.
Healthcare teamIf you have any questions or problems during your stay you should contact head nurse/in-charge nurse.
Your doctors or nurses should discuss all treatments and procedures with you and provide an appropriate explanation.
Inpatient careYou will be asked to provide written consent for certain procedures and diagnostic tests which you may need during your stay. For instance for surgery, anesthesia or receiving a blood transfusion, additional consent must be given. The attending physician will explain and discuss the procedure/surgery, recommending the risks and benefits along with any alternative treatments. In an emergency situation, when you are unable to give consent, the attending physician will act on your behalf in your best interest and will proceed with the procedure/treatment. Patients are allowed to refuse treatment or tests, the consequences of refusal will be clearly explained by medical staff.
As Al Khor Hospital is a teaching hospital, medical students and researchers make an important contribution to the development and advancement of the hospital. If you do not wish medical students to be part of an element of your care, please notify your assigned nurse. This is also the case if wish to be omitted from teaching or research programs.
Room allocationWe aim to promote a healthy, restful environment within the hospital for patients. Usually no more than two patients will stay within a common room. Private rooms are also available within the hospital and are preferentially allocated to Qatari patients.

Please note that there are no laundry services/facilities on the ward as the hospital has its own laundry facility for the laundry requirements of wards and units. Mobile phones are permitted on the wards but the use of electrical appliances without a safety check is forbidden. If patients wish to bring any electrical appliances such as razors, radios or hairdryers, they will need to be inspected by the Hospital Safety Officer.
Patient Food ServicePatients are provided with a variety of international and Arabic meals/snacks on the wards at the following times:
Breakfast 6.45am to 7am
Snacks 9am to 10am
Lunch 11.30am to 12pm
Snacks 2.30pm to 3pm
Dinner 6pm to 6.30pm
Bed Time Snack 7.30pm to 7.45pm
ParkingNo long term parking facilities are currently provided by the hospital.
Smoking restrictionsAs per Qatar Law, smoking is prohibited in all public areas including the wards and all HMC grounds. All hospitals within HMC are smoke free. This smoking restriction extends to all staff, patients and visitors. Any person(s) smoking in the hospital or on hospital grounds will be asked by security to immediately cease smoking and a fine may be issued.
