Over 700 healthcare professionals from across Qatar and the world will gather in Doha on 16 to 18 January 2016 for the International Conference in Emergency Medicine and Public Health-Qatar (ICEP-Q). Under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani, Minister of Public Health, and organized in collaboration with the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), conference sessions will be dedicated to infectious disease, disaster preparedness, pre-hospital emergency, injury prevention, medical toxicology and many more topics relevant to those with an interest in emergency care.
“This conference underscores the importance of focusing on the crucial interface between two major components of the health system - emergency medicine and public health. In Qatar, and in many other parts of the world, Emergency Departments are the point of entry to the healthcare system for a large percentage of the population. In turn, emergency medicine, as a specialty, holds an integral role in addressing several public health concerns,” said Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Bin Hamad Al Thani, Director of Public Health at the SCH.
Taking place at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), the conference also includes two days of pre-conference workshops and will feature a distinguished lineup of speakers from a wide spectrum of emergency care and public health organizations located across the world.
“This conference has a multidisciplinary focus, addressing major public health concerns such as the management of chronic conditions, injury and health risks and the delivery of clinical and preventive services. Attendees will have an opportunity to engage with many of the leading emergency and public health researchers, clinicians and administrators, learning and sharing the latest thinking on these topics,” said Professor Stephen H. Thomas, Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine, HMC.
The conference is expected to be one of the year’s largest gatherings of emergency and public health professionals in this region. Qatar National Bank is the main conference sponsor and an exhibition will run in parallel with the conference. The conference will also feature more than 150 scientific abstracts.
