Sponsorship of Qatari Medical Graduates for Post-Graduate Training Abroad
The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Scholarship Office in HMC’s Medical Education Department supports Qatari medical graduates to complete their postgraduate training (residency/fellowship) at prestigious medical centers outside Qatar. The regulations and provisions for scholarship are governed by HMC’s HR scholarship bylaws and government scholarship bylaws. The majority of individuals we support go to Canada or the United States, but opportunities are also available in the UK, Ireland, or Europe. Our team can assist you in knowing what opportunities are available, help support you in submitting your application, and advise you of sponsorship and scholarship formalities.
Eligibility
Qatari medical students and Qatari medical school graduates are eligible. Applicants will be required to meet the desired program’s admission requirements and if not presently employed by HMC, to successfully complete HMC’s recruitment formalities. Those approved for scholarship will be contractually bound to return back to Qatar and provide service to HMC, upon completion of training.

If you are a student, the best time to contact us is when you are nearing completion of your second-to-last year of medical school. Many programs, such as those in Canada, have application deadlines in the Summer, to begin training the following Spring, so we do encourage those interested to contact us no later than mid-May. In addition, if you have applied to the US Match (ERAS), and are successful, there are also opportunities available through HMC to support your overseas training.
