Dr. Öcal Berkan

Dr. Öcal Berkan is Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery and President of the Turkish Phlebology Society. He was born in Nicosia, Cyprus in August of 1964 and began his medical education in 1982 at Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Medicine. He completed a Cardiovascular Surgery Fellowship at Türkiye Yuksek Ihtisas Education in Ankara and Research Hospital, and mastered at İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital.
He became Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery in 1996, after he had been appointed as Assistant Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Department Cardiovascular Surgery of Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine in 2006. Dr. Berkan was promoted to Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery in 2012.
Dr. Berkan has been an active member of the Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, the Turkish Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, The European Society of Cardiovascular Surgery (ESCVS), the International Union of Phlebology (UIP) and the Society of Turkish of Phlebology Associations.
Dr. Berkan is currently the President of the Turkish Phlebology Society, a role he assumed after occupying a variety of different board-level positions during the last decade. He has published more than 40 papers in SCI Journals and has been undertaking multicentric scientific studies with a particular focus on venous pathologies and management strategies.
