Dr. Talat Chughtai is the Director of the Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Hamad General Hospital. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Chughtai graduated from McGill Medical School in Montreal, Canada in 1994, where he also completed his General Surgical Training (FRCSC) in 1999. He completed his Critical Care Medicine Fellowship (FRCPC) in 2002, followed by a Trauma Surgery Fellowship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto, in Ontario, Canada in 2004.
From 2004 to 2009, Dr Chughtai was a Consultant at Sunnybrook, Toronto, in Trauma and Critical Care. From 2010 until 2016, he was a Consultant in Trauma and Critical Care, as well as Assistant Professor of Surgery, at McGill University in Montreal.
Dr. Chughtai has published over 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals in the field of Trauma, Critical care and Thoracic Surgery and has presented at numerous international conferences. The subject of Masters Thesis was “Outcomes in Neuro-Trauma”, for which he won the McLaughlin Award. He received the Peters-Boyd Academy teaching award while at Sunnybrook, University of Toronto, and has also been an ATLS instructor for over 20 years. Dr. Chughtai is an examiner for both the Licensure Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) as well as the international Medical Graduate (IMG) exam for Canada.
