Welcome
Dear colleagues,
Sepsis continues to be a major danger to patients and globally remains a leading cause of death in hospitals. While a lot of good work has been done to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment – the evidence suggests that there is still insufficient understanding about sepsis management and diagnosis is often made too late in many patients.
World Sepsis Day, which is marked annually on September 13th, is an international collaboration that seeks to increase awareness among both healthcare professionals and the general public about sepsis. It was launched by the Global Sepsis Alliance to further reduce sepsis related mortality in the near future and stated a specific goal of saving 800 000 lives worldwide by 2020.
At HMC we take the dangers of sepsis very seriously and there have been many different projects, arranged by various teams in several hospitals, which have focused on improving sepsis prevention and care. This year we have decided to implement a whole-system methodology for sepsis management in order to ensure a unified and consistent approach and deliver better care to our patients.
This is merely one of the innovative and educational topics for discussion at this year’s Sepsis Symposium – we are also fortunate to have several international experts in the field who will share their knowledge and experience with us.
We look forward to your participation and hope you will take the learning back to your workplace and help spread knowledge about best practice sepsis management. Only with the support of all healthcare professionals can find better solutions to prevent hospital-acquired sepsis and optimize the treatment of this potentially lethal syndrome.
Together we can work towards “stopping sepsis to save lives”.
Thank you
