Qatar has a fast-growing economy and an ambitious national 2030 plan designed to achieve excellence across all sectors. Hosting the World Cup in 2022 is one such example. The Rheumatology Division at Hamad Medical Corporation aims to be part of this success story - continuously aiming for excellence. As clinicians, we always aim to provide the best evidence-based care for our patients.

We developed our Centre of Excellence for treating pregnant women with rheumatic disease and our results matched and in some areas exceeded the best international outcomes. The musculoskeletal ultrasound service and training is another example of the Rheumatology Division’s success. It has been endorsed by EULAR - one of the main international organizations dealing with rheumatic diseases. We are also in the process of establishing our state-of-the-art Metabolic Bone Disease Center liaising with other specialties. After expanding our service, we will move towards faculty development in subspecialty clinics to continue to provide the best care and center of excellence in rheumatology in Qatar.

Research, audit, and education are our fastest growing areas. We established registries of many rheumatic diseases and have the largest registry in the region for rheumatoid arthritis. We also have a lot of ongoing research, which includes some international collaborative work. Recently our published content in international journals has significantly increased and we are striving to both maintain and improve upon this.
