Dr. Walid Othman AbouGalala

Dr. AbouGalala was board certified in Emergency Medicine by the Jordan Medical Council in 2007. He holds a master’s degree in Disaster Medicine from universities in Italy and Belgium and a second Master’s degree in Medical Education from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.
Dr. AbouGalala has been an Emergency and Disaster Medicine consultant at Hamad Medical Corporation since 1998. He is currently the Executive Director for Major Incident Planning at Hamad Medical Corporation and is a consultant with the Emergency Preparedness and Response Department of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar.
He is heavily involved in national emergency and disaster management preparation being the MoPH Coordinator of the National Health Emergency Management Committee. He has also led the development of the National Health Emergency Management framework in the State of Qatar. Additionally, Dr. AbouGalala serves as the Medical Director for the Emergency Medical Service Program at the College of North Atlantic in Qatar and is Chair of their Emergency Health Science Advisory Committee.
In Qatar, he is a member of many national emergency management committees including the Hamad International Airport Emergency and Safety Committee, and a committee for Ras Laffan Industrial City with Qatar Petroleum. He is also Member of the National Shelter Committee, the Permanent Emergency Committee, Ministry of Interior, Qatar and Coordinator and Member of the Strategic Stockpile Committee at the MoPH. He is also a member of the Emergency Preparedness Committee at MOPH – the highest committee for health emergency preparedness as well as a Major Incident Drill Evaluator.
Regionally and internationally, Dr. AbouGalala is a WHO Temporary Advisor and Expert for the Emergency Preparedness and Humanitarian Action Program and International Health Regulation (2005) as well as the Regional Office for the East Mediterranean (EMROWHO). He is also a Temporary Advisor to WHO – EMRO for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Dr. AbouGalala is an international educator, instructor and course director. He also develops courses and modules in Trauma, Adult and Pediatric Resuscitation, and Disaster Management affiliated with many international organizations such the American College of Surgeons, European Resuscitation Councils and Advance life Support Groups (UK) and ICRC (Geneva).
