
Dr. Salih Ali Al Marri has been the Assistant Minister for Health Affairs for the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar since 2009. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons (1993) and is board-certified in Family Medicine (1998). He is also a Fellow in Health Care of the Elderly and Academia (2001) and holds a master’s degree in Healthcare Management (2008). Research in Public Health is his area of interest.
He is responsible for essential departments such as Public Health, Emergency Preparedness and Response; Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety; Medical Commission; Pharmacy and Drug Control; Medical Relations and Treatment Abroad; and Health Facilities Licensing and Accreditation. Her Excellency, the Minister of Public Health in Qatar, has entrusted him to oversee and ensure that national level disease and health issues and specific strategies and programs are implemented as planned and aligned with public health strategy.
He is a member of the Emergency Preparedness Committee being chaired by the Minister of Public Health in Qatar and the Responsible Officer (SRO) for the National Health Strategy 2018-2022 This has a triple aim: Better Health, Better Care, and Better Value and focuses on five Priority Areas – one of which Dr. Salih leads - the Enhanced Health Protection area.
Dr. Salih was the Executive Director of Primary Health Care Centers for five years, (2001-2016) and was concurrently the Chairman of Family Medicine (Hamad Medical Corporation, 2001-2002).
He has recently completed an International Emergency and Disaster Management Program -Executive Master of Professional Studies at Georgetown University, where he was presented as an Outstanding Community Engagement Awardee in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the International Executive Master’s in Emergency & Disaster Management (IEDM) Graduate Program at Georgetown University (August 2019).
