Dr. Mahesh Desai
Dr. Mahesh Desai obtained his MBBS (1966) and M.S. in General Surgery (1970) from B.J. Medical College, Pune University.
He received fellowship (FRCS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of London and Edinburgh in 1973. He became the Chairman of the Department of Urology at Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital since 1983 till 12 June 2010; and the Managing Trustee of the MPUH and Honorary Managing Director of Muljibhai Patel Society for Research in Nephro-Urology since 16 February 2001; Medical Director of MPUH since 12 June 2010 till 2016 and Director of Jayaramdas Patel Academic Centre.
He has held many national and international positions in the field of Urology such as: President, Urological Society of India (2006-2007); President, Asian Society of Endourology (2008-2012); President, Society International d'Urologie (SIU) (October, 20111-2012); President, World Endourology Society (2012-2013).
He has mastered the most modern treatment for the stone disease and developed innovative techniques in Percutaenous Nephrolithotrispy (PCNL), Ureteroscopy and ESWL. So far, he has done more than 12000 PCNL, probably the largest series in the world. He expanded the use of ultrasound in Urology and established, for the first time, the service of kidney transplantation in Gujarat.
Dr. Desai has published more than 174 scientific papers in national and international journals and contributed in more than 32 books. He has received several national and international awards.
