Dr. Mani Chandran is a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist in the Department of Geriatrics and Long-Term Care at Hamad Medical Corporation, since December 2016, where he has been a key member of the team supporting the department’s goals of promoting Dementia and Delirium awareness, treatment and prevention.

After graduating from Government Medical College Kozhikode, Kerala India, Dr. Chandran has gained extensive clinical experience in psychiatry over 3 decades, holding senior positions in Geriatric Psychiatry. Prior to moving to Qatar, he worked as a Consultant in Geriatric Psychiatry in the NHS, West Midlands, UK for eight years.

At HMC, Dr. Chandran attends to the psychiatric issues of older adult patients across HMC, including conducting home visits for patients with mobility issues. Dr. Mani supported the expansion of Memory Clinics outside of Rumailah Hospital, with new Memory Clinics located in Primary Health Centers for easier patient access. He was also involved in the establishment of National Alzheimer's and Memory Services Helpline, RAHA, the first helpline provides in the region aimed at providing help and support for those living with Alzheimer disease.

As a member of the Qatar National Dementia Plan taskforce, Dr. Chandran has been driving awareness campaigns to educate the public about Dementia Risk Reduction, Alzheimer’s Disease and Delirium. A firm believer in professional development education, he has been actively delivering training to physicians and nurses on topics relating to Dementia diagnosis and care.

More recently, Dr. Chandran was involved in promoting targeted programs within HMC designed to enhance the care for older people, including the Integrated care for older people (‎ICOPE) and the 4Ms of an Age-Friendly Health System (an evidence-based framework for assessing and acting on critical issues in the care of older adults across settings and transitions of care).
