Michael A. Posencheg, MD is the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Value Improvement at Penn Medicine/University of Pennsylvania Health System. In this role, he is responsible for spread initiatives creating value for the various entities at Penn Medicine. Furthermore, he is the Associate Chief for Quality and Patient Safety for the Division of Neonatology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He completed the Improvement Advisor (IA) and Graduate IA program at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. His team has made significant improvements in reducing unplanned extubations in ventilated infants, redesigning delivery room care and improving admission temperatures for infants with a birth weight <1250g, and reducing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus colonization in the Intensive Care Nursery. Dr. Posencheg has also been involved in the creation of a curriculum utilizing simulation technology to improve the teaching of neonatal resuscitation to pediatric residents. The results of this project and the delivery room redesign were published in Pediatrics. Dr. Posencheg is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania.
