Dr. Mohammed Bashir
Director of the national diabetes centre in the Women’s Wellness and Research Centre
Dr Mohammed Bashir received his MB BS from the University of Khartoum. Then he completed his basic medical training in Ireland and obtained his membership with the Royal College of Physician in Ireland in 2006. In 2011 he was awarded a postgraduate medical doctorate (MD) degree from the University College of Dublin-Ireland after defending his thesis titled “Effects of smoking on the metabolic control and urinary biomarkers in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus”. In 2012 Dr Bashir completed his higher training and was registered as a specialist in internal medicine, endocrinology and diabetes with the Irish Medical Council and the General Medical Council. He has worked as a Consultant in Endocrinology in South Tipperary General Hospital and Beaumont Hospital in Ireland before joining Hamad Medical Corporation in 2014. He is currently the director of the national diabetes centre in the Women’s Wellness and Research Centre. He has published in peer review journal in the areas of diabetes and pregnancy, diabetes and Ramadan, diabetes technology and biomarkers. His current research activity includes areas of prevention of gestational diabetes, prevention of type 2 diabetes, genetics of type 2 diabetes and pluripotent stem cells.
