Dear Colleagues, 

I would like to invite you to attend the 2019 Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare, held once again in Doha, Qatar. IHI is pleased to present this event alongside our partners in the region, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). Throughout our years of partnership, we have seen the HMC work tirelessly on improving quality of care, safety and population health. It has been a privilege to create this impactful event together and to view the personal growth of our attendees. 

Since its beginning, 7 years ago, the Middle East Forum has provided a space for both those experienced and new to quality improvement to come together and develop their skills and knowledge. This year we are placing a renewed focus on patient safety and stressing the importance of placing the needs of the patient first. It has been more than a year since IHI merged with the National Patient Safety Foundation and we aim to bring to you our combined learnings to empower you to make lasting improvements for your patients. 

In line with this focus, HMC and IHI have developed the 2019 Middle East Forum program around the theme of “Patient Safety First”. This theme can be seen throughout the five program tracks: Patient Safety; Quality Improvement; Work Place Effectiveness; Value, Flow, and Access; and Population Health. The courses within each track will provide a valuable platform for all attendees to explore their interests and exchange ideas. For the first time, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Henry Marsh, neurosurgery pioneer and author of Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death and Brain Surgery. In addition, the program will feature IHI’s President Emerita, Maureen Bisognano, IHI’s Chief Clinical and Safety Officer, Dr. Tejal Gandhi, and top patient safety expert Dr. Terry Fairbanks. I expect their messages and teachings, in addition to those of other international healthcare visionaries, will leave you inspired and ready to take on the challenges of implementing a culture of quality improvement and safety in your organization.

It will be an exceptional week of collaboration and inspiration as we work towards the goal of providing safe and better care for our patients. I look forward to seeing you in Doha, you won’t want to miss it.
