Dr. Abdullah Al Kaabi


Chief Medical Officer, Sidra Medicine


Dr. Al Kaabi is the Chief Medical Officer, Member of the Board and a practicing Pediatric Nephrologist at Sidra Medicine. He is also an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.
Since joining Sidra in 2013, Dr. Al Kaabi has held several key positions such as Member of the Office of the CEO, Acting CMO, Executive Vice Chief Medical Officer and the Executive Chair of the Children’s Services Clinical Management Group.
Under Dr. Al Kaabi’s leadership as Acting CMO, Sidra witnessed the opening of the Outpatient Clinic and the opening plan for the phasing-in of the Inpatient Services. Sidra’s Pediatric Inpatient Services were successfully activated under his leadership as Executive Chair – CCMG.

Nationally, Dr. Al Kaabi is recognized for his sizeable contributions to healthcare and has held several key administrative and clinical leadership roles in the State of Qatar. He established Qatar’s pediatric renal transplant program and set up the country’s first peritoneal dialysis program and pediatric hemodialysis unit at HMC. He led Sidra’s Pediatric Clinical Planning Group and led the formation of the National Plan for Pediatric Services.

Dr. Al Kaabi sits on the board of Qatar Biobank and has recently been appointed as a member of the Weill Cornell Medicine Qatar Joint Advisory Board.
Dr. Al Kaabi has been the recipient of a number of awards and commendations, including the ‘Guiding Star of Excellence’ award for excellence in service and technology, the ‘Rising Star’ for leadership, and two ‘Awards of Merit’ for research and education from HMC.

Dr. Al-Kaabi completed his pediatric residency at the University of Western Ontario, Canada and subsequently completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology at the Hospital for Sick Children. He was the first person from outside of North America to receive Honorary Sick Kids Alumni Award from the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He holds the Canadian boards of Pediatrics and Pediatric Nephrology and holds a Master’s degree in Health Care Management from the Royal College of Surgeons In Ireland. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
