Professor Derek Stewart is professor of pharmacy practice at the School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland. Derek has expertise in a wide spectrum of health services research methodologies and methods. His research spans very many different practice research areas, with particular focus on the safe and effective use of medicines and developing, implementing and evaluating models of care. He has led pharmacy practice research generating evidence of impact on patients, professionals, organisations and society at local, national and international levels. He has an international reputation in the fields of medication safety and education, policy, practice and research on prescribing by non-medical health professionals. He collaborates widely with academics and practitioners across the globe and has a current active collaboration in Qatar facilitated by Dr Moza Al Hail, the Executive Director of Pharmacy at Hamad Medical Corporation. He has published over 135 peer reviewed papers, attracted research income over £2.5million, supervised 15 doctoral students to completion and in 2011 received the UK Pharmacy Practice Research Trust Practice Research Award for his significant contribution to pharmacy practice research. He is also an executive editor with the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and is current Chair of the Research Committee of the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy. He represents Robert Gordon University and the pharmacy profession at many national and international forums, is a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and a Fellow of the Faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
