Dear Colleague
Marhaba and a very warm welcome.
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural course in Basics of Clinical and Translational Research in Women's Health, co-hosted by Women’s Hospital and Qatar Metabolic Institute.
This special course offers an outstanding opportunity to get a comprehensive overview of clinical and translational research methodologies and the available research facilities in Qatar, as well as to interact and build relationships with many institutional leaders and scientists.
Women’s Hospital, Qatar’s premier maternal health provider and Qatar Metabolic Institute in collaboration with leading educational and research institutions are developing a research program to build and support research capacity on women’s health at Hamad Medical Corporation.
Translational research is a “bench-to-bedside and beyond” approach that calls upon researchers to develop their work with broader and more holistic worldviews, as opposed to narrower approaches that look at life-world problems through a single lens.
Clinical and translational research is a new and evolving paradigm in the biomedical enterprise that attempts to improve patient and community health by accelerating basic science discoveries in the laboratory to their application in clinical practice. This perspective affects the knowledge, skills and competencies of all healthcare professionals.
A central tenet of clinical and translational research is its trans-disciplinary or cross-disciplinary approach. Training in clinical and translational research equips professionals with enhanced research and leadership skills, and prepares them to work collaboratively with researchers, patients, leaders and anyone else interested in providing state-of-the-art health care.
This meeting provides a valuable forum to share your experience with world class scientists and to glean insights from which all of us can learn, innovate and adapt.
The theme of our gathering is “Bridging the Gap Between Healthcare Providers and Scientists”. This is a timely and valuable topic for those wishing to learn about clinical and translational research and hear more about regional and international research experiences.
In addition, the course offers the chance to visit two of Qatar’s premier research facilities: the Interim Research Institute and Qatar Biomedical Research Institute. We hope you will have the opportunity to visit our facilities and to explore all that they have to offer.
We look forward to your participation and engagement over the next three days in advancing these goals.
Sincerely,
Professor David Hearnshaw BarlowDirector of Women’s Services
