
Emad A. Rakha, MB BCh, MSc, MD, PhD, FRCPath
Emad is a globally recognized expert in breast pathology. He served as Professor of Breast Pathology at the University of Nottingham and Honorary Consultant Pathologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust before moving to Hamad Medical Corporation as a Senior Consultant in 2023. With over 20 years of experience, he has made major contributions to diagnostic classification, prognostic markers, and international pathology guidelines. Professor Rakha has authored over 570 peer-reviewed publications and numerous book chapters, including contributions to the WHO Blue Book and UK national breast guidelines. He sits on the editorial boards and a reviewer of leading pathology and oncology journals including Lancet, NEJM and Nature and has played a key role in international groups such as BIG18, the European Working Group for Breast Pathology, UK breast screening research committee, and the International Society of Breast Pathology. He was the lead of the Nottingham Trust Biobank and a member of the Breast Cancer Now biobank committee. His research focuses on challenging diagnostic areas such as HER2-low breast cancers, fibroepithelial lesions, and AI in pathology. He gain the UK Sliver Clinical Excellence Award in 2018 and UK HEFEC Fellowship award in 2011. He is lead author of the UK HER2 guidelines and editor of a forthcoming comprehensive breast pathology textbook (Cambridge University Press).
