Dr. C.B. Koppiker stands at the forefront of breast health excellence as the Medical Director at Orchids Breast Health Center in Pune, India. With nearly 30 years of oncosurgical expertise, he led the establishment of Pune's first state-of-the-art cancer center in 1994. Driven by the belief that 'losing your breast to breast cancer isn't an option,' he pioneered oncoplastic practice in India, revolutionizing breast cancer surgical management. He with his teams have performed the largest number of oncoplastic breast surgeries in Southeast Asia
.Dr. Koppiker's impact extends beyond surgical innovation. As the founder of Prashanti Cancer Care Mission, a non-profit organization, he actively engages in providing affordable medical care, freeships, breast cancer awareness, and community screening in Pune.
His commitment to capacity building led to the establishment of the International School of Oncoplastic Surgery, training over 500 breast surgeons worldwide and introducing Indian subcontinent to the Mastership program in Breast Oncoplasty in collaboration with the University of East Anglia, U.K.
A distinguished figure on the global stage, Dr. Koppiker serves on the boards of national and international societies, including the Society of Oncoplastic Surgery, U.S.A. He is also the joint Editor in Chief of the Journal of Oncoplastic Surgery, U.S.A.
Dr. Koppiker's research-driven approach lead him to co-found Centre for Translational Cancer Research in 2017. This Centre in collaboration with IISER-Pune addresses critical issues, notably the Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) scenario in India. His commitment to bridging the knowledge gap is evident through over 40 international clinical and translational publications. This wealth of evidence-based research not only contributes to the global understanding of breast health but also serves as a significant stride in addressing specific challenges faced by Indian breast cancer patients
Dr. Koppiker's extensive contributions are reflected in major international projects like BreastGlobal and the Indian Cancer Genome Atlas (ICGA). BreastGlobal serves as a comprehensive platform for global learning and training opportunities, while the ICGA aims to create an indigenously developed, open-source, comprehensive database of molecular profiles of all cancers prevalent in Indian populations.
Recognized for his body of work, Dr. Koppiker has received numerous awards and accolades for his significant role in fighting breast cancer in India. Recently for his relentless contributions he received the prestigious lifetime achievement award from Asian Society of Mastology, recognizing the profound impact of his lifelong dedication. His impact resonates not only within the medical community but also with social organizations, earning him accolades such as Pune's Most Powerful (2018-19) and the ET Edge Maharashtra Achievers' Awards.
