Dr. Victor Chilaka
FRCOG, FWACS
Dr. Victor Chilaka qualified at the University of Ibadan Nigeria in 1982. He moved to the UK in 1992 to continue his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He obtained membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 1994 and Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) the same year.
He obtained Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2003, and later that year was appointed substantive Consultant in Obstetrics and gynaecology with special interest in urogynaecology at the University of Derby Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. He continued to work in this capacity until he was appointed as a Senior Consultant at HMC in February 2017. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in recognition of his contributions to the specialty in 2006.
Dr Victor Chilaka is highly interested in medical education and was RCOG preceptor for urogynaecology and benign gynaecology surgery modules. He also runs Part 2 MRCOG courses in Leicester and around the world with Professor J.C. Konje. While acting as Chairman of the RCOG, Nigerian Liaison Group, he initiated the MRCOG Part 1 Exams in Abuja Nigeria, and still runs Part 1 MRCOG Courses in Nigeria annually to support the candidates. He initiated the first hands-on FGM reversal course and training in the UK, which still runs twice yearly to date.
Dr Chilaka is part of the faculty for Emergency Obstetric Care and Life saving Skills (EOC & LSS) which is a working group between Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the RCOG teaching emergency obstetric care and live-saving skills to front-line delivery staff all over the world.
