Dr. Mariam Al Belushi
BSc, MD, MSc, CABOG, Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Dr Mariam Al-Beloushi is a Consultant in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the Women’s Wellness Research Center (WWRC), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). She has held this position since 2011.
Dr Al-Beloushi graduated from the Sultan Qaboos University, Oman with a BSc (Batchelor of Science) in 1994 and MD(Medicine) in 1997. She completed her Arab Board in Obstetrics and Gynaecology postgraduate training in 2007 at HMC. She passed Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist (MRCOG) UK Part I in 2000.
Following completion of the Arab Board training, she embarked on training in Maternal Fetal Medicine through the Ian Donald Inter-University School of Medical Ultrasound obtaining a Master’s Degree from the University of Zagreb, Croatia in 2009. AS part of her training, she spent a year in Germany undergoing training in ultrasound in the department of Heidelberg hospital for one year.
Between 2013 and 2015, she undertook a Fellowship Training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine under the University of Leicester and completed in 2015. As part of this training she undertook an important research into the outcome of a lethal inherited condition (Meckel-Gruber Syndrome) in Qatar and published her findings in the Journal of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in 2016.
Dr Al-Baloushi is an active member of the Fetal Medicine team at the Women’s Wellness Research Center, where she provides tertiary level fetal medicine services in addition to routine obstetrics care. She works collaboratively with colleagues both within Qatar and overseas.
She has made significant contributions to improvements on quality care through her work on “Improving Care in the Emergency Room“at HMC for which she was awarded “Star of Excellence” by Hamad, her contribution to risk management, leading the development of guidelines for the management of Small for Gestational Age Pregnancies, Anaemia in Pregnancy and Obesity in Pregnancy. Furthermore, she has participated in audit on amniocentesis at HMC which has also informed clinical practice.
She is a committed teacher and an acknowledged international speaker. She has mentored and led the training of several trainees, residents and fellows as well as medical students. For these groups, she regularly delivers didactic , workshop, lectures, tutorials and bedside teaching. She has made presentations at International and national conferences.
