The past two years have been challenging due to the pandemic, for health care and medical
professionals. We are still not completely out of it and are adjusting to the improving situation with the new normal. Despite the challenges due to the pandemic difficulties, molecular imaging and nuclear medicine have been making steady progress. Several new and exciting developments are seen in technology, clinical applications, and radiotracer therapies. The Arabian Gulf region has seen new emerging diagnostic and therapy centers.

Molecular Imaging & Nuclear medicine at Hamad Medical Corporation has also made a big leap by acquiring a second PET/CT to commence Cardiac service, positron emission mammography for clinical and research applications, and replacing SPECT cameras with SPECT/CT; a daycare radiotracer therapy suite has been assigned and a most modern General Nuclear Medicine Radiopharmacy was established. Therefore, this is the right time for nuclear medicine professionals in the region to meet and share their experience, learn about new developments and extend cooperation and collaboration to partners.

The joint organization of the first Qatar Molecular Imaging and 9th Gulf Nuclear Medicine Conference in Doha, Qatar from 17 to 19 March 2022 is a step in this direction. This is a joint effort of nuclear medicine professionals in the GCC region. Several scientific sessions are planned with parallel sessions for scientists, nursing staff, and technologists. An exhibition by the vendors to showcase the new technology and radiopharmaceutical products is also planned. Experts in the field from the region and the world will be delivering lectures on the topics of current interest in their specialty.

The conference is being organized in accordance with COVID-19 infection control procedures. As the situation develops, registrants and participants will be updated. Those who plan to attend this event in person will enjoy pleasant weather in Qatar, which is also the venue for FIFA World Cup 2022. Qatar brings together old world hospitality with cosmopolitan sophistication, the chance to enjoy a rich cultural tapestry, new experiences and adventures.

I look forward to seeing you at the Joint Qatar-Gulf 2022 MINM conference.
