A Delegation from Qatar Red Crescent visits Al-Khor Hospital, 28 September

Al-Khor Hospital (KH), an affiliate of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), received last Monday the 26th. of Sept. 2011, a visiting delegation from Qatar Red Crescent. The delegation gave souvenir presents to the patients and made an orientation tour over the various sections and departments of the Hospital during which the visitors were briefed on the latest services provided by the Hospital.

The delegation was received by Mr. Mohamed Ali Al-jussaiman, the Executive Director of AK and the Public Relations’ coordinators.

Heart Patients at HGH to be Transferred to Heart Hospital, Doha, 28 September

All heart patients at Hamad General Hospital (HGH) will soon be transferred to the new Heart Hospital, which was opened earlier this year. The transfer will be conducted starting Friday, September 30, and will be done in coordination with the Ambulance Service. This was announced by Mr Mahmoud Saleh Al Raisi, Executive Director of Heart Hospital.

A total of 70 heart patients will be transferred to the new facility, comprising heart intensive care patients, heart surgery patients and heart inpatients. The inpatients will be transferred on Friday, while intensive care patients will be transferred on Saturday.

Meanwhile, all emergency heart cases will continue to be served at HGH Emergency Department as Heart Hospital’s emergency unit is not yet open, according to Mr Al Raisi.

The new specialized Heart Hospital has 114 rooms and is intended to provide all necessary medical services for heart patients, such as catheterization and surgery.

Radiology Services at Airport PHC Emergency to be closed for one month, Doha, 18 September

As part of its comprehensive drive to improve Healthcare services provided to patients; the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) announces that operations of Radiology Services at Airport PHC Pediatric Emergency Unit will be suspended as from Monday, 19 September 2011 for a period of one month.
 
Some pediatric cases that need radiology scan will be referred to other health centers near Airport PHC or to Al Sadd Pediatric Emergency Center.

HMC Psychiatry Department to Hold Public Lecture on Anxiety, Doha, 12 September

Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Psychiatry Department invites clinical and healthcare workers, educators and members of the general public to its next Open Day at 5pm on Thursday, 15th of September, at the Department of Psychiatry.

The lecture and open discussion on the signs and symptoms of anxiety will be led by Ms Mariana Barrancos, whose areas of expertise include adjustment disorders, anxiety and depression, trauma and cultural diversity.

Frequent symptoms of anxiety may include excessive worries and fear, nervousness, irritability, shortness of breath, insomnia, a racing heartbeat, nausea, dizziness, and shaking, amongst others. Anxiety is one of the most common psychological disturbances. Symptoms of anxiety may manifest as gastrointestinal problems, insomnia, headaches which increase the patient’s level of discomfort. In addition, anxiety disorders may coexist with other psychological disturbances, such as depression and an increased risk for substance abuse.

HMC’s Psychology Supervisor, Marianna Barrancos, will lead the discussion on the signs and symptoms of anxiety and how to understand the multiple risk factors of anxiety symptoms. In her lecture, she will describe different types of anxiety disorders, treatment options and healthy strategies to help people manage anxiety. Ms Barrancos, who has a Masters in Social Work from New York University, has practiced as a Psychologist in Argentina in governmental agencies and in private practice. Her institutional work focused on the prevention and treatment of multiple forms of abuse, trauma and emotional deprivation in children, adolescents and adults.

This lecture organized by HMC’s Psychiatry Department is part of a series of open days held on the second Thursday of each month throughout 2011, which aim to educate the public on various aspects of mental illness and mental health.

Plastic Surgery & Rehabilitation Clinic at Rumaila Hospital to be closed for two days, Doha, 6 September

Doha, 6 September: As part of its comprehensive drive to improve Healthcare services provided to patients; Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) announces that Rumaila Hospital’s OPD clinics will be closed for renovations during the period 11 – 12 September 2011

The administration of Rumaila Hospital (RH) announces that the Plastic Surgery & Rehabilitation Clinic will be temporally relocated near the Laboratory and Burns Section. The clinic will be open for patients as from Tuesday 13 September 2011.
Working hours will be 07:00 am to 03:00 pm.

Leading Doctors from Abroad to Visit HMC, Doha, 6 September

Leading doctors in the field of orthopedics and ophthalmology will visit The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in September, 2011. During their visit the doctors will offer patient consultation and perform surgeries.

Dr. Charles Beck from America, an orthopedic with specialization in knee multiligamentous injury and shoulder arthroscopic will visit HMC from 18 to 22 September. Patients can contact 44384798/48 and seek appointment.
